BMW Boosts X3 M50 Power to 443 hp with New Black Package for 2027
BMW has confirmed significant performance upgrades for the 2027 X3 M50 xDrive, increasing engine output by 45 horsepower to a total of 443 hp. The update also introduces an optional Black Package with exclusive darkened aesthetics and interior detailing, scheduled for dealership arrival at the end of the current year.
BMW has confirmed a substantial power increase for the 2027 X3 M50 xDrive, raising the total system output of its turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine by 45 horsepower to reach 443 hp. The automaker stated that this enhancement applies to all units of the M50 trim level and enables acceleration from a standstill to highway speeds in 4.4 seconds.
Alongside the performance upgrade, BMW introduced an exclusive Black Package designed to darken the vehicle’s aesthetic profile. This optional package features unique 22-inch wheels, gloss black detailing on the M Sport brake calipers, and darkened M logos and model badging. Interior modifications include extensive use of Alcantara synthetic suede-like fabric on the instrument-panel binnacle, door trim, armrests, and areas surrounding the center touchscreen display. The cabin also features embossed M logos on headrests and M notations printed on floor mats.
These updates for the M50 trim are part of a broader refresh for the X3 lineup. BMW expects to introduce additional cabin changes across the entire X3 range starting at the end of the current calendar year. These wider updates include revised dashboard materials, enhanced ambient lighting integrated into storage compartments and door handles, and a redesigned glove-box opener.
The announcement follows recent sales data from the Canadian market, where the BMW Group sold approximately 36,369 vehicles in the previous calendar year, representing a nearly 5% increase compared to the prior year. The updated X3 M50 xDrive with the Black Package is scheduled to arrive at dealerships around the end of the current year.
By increasing the output of the existing engine architecture, BMW aims to improve acceleration figures without altering the fundamental powertrain design. The 4.4-second acceleration claim positions the X3 M50 xDrive competitively within the compact luxury SUV segment. The Black Package offers a distinct alternative to standard M Sport styling by focusing on darkened elements and exclusive wheel designs.
BMW’s strategy for the 2027 model year combines incremental performance gains with targeted cosmetic options. The horsepower increase is available across the board for the M50 trim, ensuring that all buyers benefit from the improved acceleration. The Black Package remains an optional add-on for those seeking specific visual customization. Dealerships are expected to receive the new inventory as the calendar year concludes, allowing customers to purchase the updated vehicle before the start of the 2027 model year.
